Iowa Stater's Take 3rd at SDSU

Five members of the Iowa State cross country team competed at South Dakota State University this weekend. The team finished in third place closely behind Minnesota State and North Dakota State on a flat and fast golf course which consisted of running 2 small loops and 3 bigger loops. The team was only 15 points behind the winner and each member of the team accomplished individual objectives and got a positive experience out of the meet. Leading the meet for the Iowa Stater's was Kevin Born with a time of 24:56 in 2nd place. Behind him in 11th place was Brandon Rooney, who had a huge personal best of over a minute in the 8K with a time of 25:26. Moving up strongly throughout the competition was Jon Reis who finished in 14th place with a time of 25:43, a personal best. Kyle Rasmussen was next to come through the line in 21st place in what was his first time under the 26 minute mark, recording a time of 25:58. The pivotal fifth man was John Ricardi with a time of 26:21, good for 28th place. The hospitality at the meet was exceptional as SDSU coach and Olympian Rod DeHaven took care of all the teams with food and fun hosting a very appatizing pasta feed for everyone on campus the night before the meet. A special thanks goes out to Rod and everyone at SDSU for the kindness and generosity that was shown throughout the weekend. It was truly a great meet to be a part of and provided the perfect back drop to allow many of the Iowa State team members to excel for great race efforts and gain personal bests.
