3 Cyclones All-Regional

At the Regional Championships, there were three cyclones that finished in the top 25 places earning them All-Regional honors. They were Kiel Uhl finishing in 4th place, Kevin Born finishing in 23rd place, and David Rotich finishing in 25th place. Kiel and Kevin had great races and fortunately Kiel will be able to run at the National Championships. While it will be the last race that David Rotich will ever run in an Iowa State uniform, David had a great career and was a great competitor not only in this race where he put it all on the line, but also in many other races throughout his time here. Congratulations to all three.

Cyclones Finish 5th at Regionals

The Iowa State Cyclones finished Saturdays Midwest Regional in 5th place behind Oklahoma State, Kansas, Iowa, and Missouri. The team was lead by a strong performance by Kiel Uhl, finshing 4th place. Kevin Born (21st), David Rotich (23rd), Guor Majak (37th), and Dan Fadgen (47th) rounded out the top 5 for the team scoring a total of 132 points. One of the goals of the season was for the Cyclones to take a step forward and run at nationals for the first time since 1997. Unfortunately the team fell short and for many of the men it will be the last race of the season and for some, the last of a fine career as a Cyclone. Hoping to obtain an at-large bid, the Cyclones went into the competition knowing that they would have to finish higher than they to be running at the National Championships next week. Unfortunately, the team fell short and will not represent Iowa State University. Fortunatley though, one of the Cyclones will get a chance to represent the University as an individual next week. Kiel Uhl, who finished fourth and in turn qualified as an individual for nationals, will get that chance to wear the cardinal and gold on the nationals course. This is his second time qualifying for nationals and he should be able to better his performance from last year with one more year of experience in the NCAA. The national championships will be held on Monday, November 20th in Terre Haute, Indiana.

While top two teams will automatically qualify for NCAA Nationals, a series of other teams will also be selected from the different Regionals across the country. The cyclones hope to see all the hard work that they have done this year pay off. While the women will race at 11:oo am, the men race at 12:15.

Both Kiel Uhl and Guor Majak were named All-Conference in the Big 12 Championship race last weekend in Kansas. To do so, they had to be within the top 15 finishers in the Conference race. Both received the honor with Kiel finishing in 7th place and Guor finishing in 14th. Congratulations to both of them.
